the march luxe box

Luxe Box! You're back to black! Good to see ya looking so classy buddy.*
* I still wish you were pink though

lovestruck by vera wang:
What an amazing kawinkydink* that this was in the box! Lovestruck is one of the perfumes that I'm constantly fawning over in stores. When I see it I must spray it! The shopkeepers must absolutely loath me. But fear not perfume counters! I have a fairly large sample of it now. Muhahaha.

*spellcheck is saying kawinkydink is not a word. It's slang you unhip computer!

opi top coat:
This is my first OPI product ever. And honestly I'm quite excited even though it's just a top coat. Top coats are the unsung heroes of the nail polish world! SPREAD IT.

cargo eyeshadow:
Well, well, well. If it isn't the eyeshadow that I spent 40 minutes trying to reserve during Luxe Box's First in Line program.

BUT I LOVE IT! I'm so happy I refreshed their broken website over and over again like a crazy person. I regret nothing! [I'm also relieved that the eyeshadow came in very wearable colours. With my luck I was convinced it would be yellow or green.]

chi silk fusion:
This is one of those products that you get in your box and you're like "what the hell is this?"

Now I've heard of CHI before, [from when I went to buy a straightener and theirs were way too expensive] but I've never tried any of their products.

The description on the bottle only confused me more. "For hair and skin?" WHAT YOU TALKIN BOUT CHI?

So that's everything that was in my March box! I basically consider a Luxebox to be a success when there is either makeup or nail polish in it. So I'd count this one as a winner!

Thank you so much for reading, and remember that these products will be back in the form of mini reviews in about a week or so. I'll use that time to test everything out and possibly decode what I'm supposed to do with the CHI product...
Actually it probably just nourishes hair. I guess I don't need Nancy Drew to help solve that case haha :)

these boots were made for...

moving at a regular and fairly slow pace by lifting and setting each foot in turn.
(Otherwise known as walkin' baby!)
So lately my only options for the bottom half of an outfit have either been tights or black pants. (I really need to invest in some jeans.) So today I thought, "I should just go for it, I should follow the calendar not the weather forecast, and the calendar says it's spring." (The thoughts inside my head are wild ya'll.) So KABLAM, bare legs.

Then the boots were added to the outfit to create a virtually nonexistent subtle Western vibe. Oh you know, just going for that straight-off-the-farm look that all the kids are wearing these days. What that's not a thing?

It actually worked out in my favour though because it's still a bit too cold for completely bare legs. So tall boots are a great option if you're waiting for Mother Nature to get with the program. She can be a tricky bee-otch sometimes.

However I wouldn't have worn this if I knew I was going to be outside for a long period of time. (That wind is colder than Voldemort's heart.) I just went for a quick lunch with my mom, so I don't have a crazy hypothermia death wish or anything.

heart dress: eBay
woven belt: walmart
navy cardigan: costa blanca
brown boots: urban planet
first four beaded bracelets: claire's
love bracelet: taylor swift online store
Then I played it safe with all brown accessories. A little bit too safe if you ask me. Where's the colour? Where's the spunk? Where's the springtime sass?? I JUST DON'T KNOW!

what do you wear on a book/nail polish journey? oh this...

Today I caught the bus to Walmart to go buy Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver! (Which is the sequel to her book Delirium that I finished a few months ago. It's sooo good, check it out!) Anywho I was hoping to get it there because their books are usually 30-40% off the cover price, but they didn't end up having it! :'( Crying face times a million! After that I didn't have the energy to walk up to Chapters so I left empty handed.

Well not completely.

I may have bought a totally gorgeous nail polish for a future nail post! (Here's a hint: it's a dupe of a Deborah Lippmann polish. Eeeeee! ) I will probably post it after my attempt at St. Patricks Day nails!
Now onto the sham of an outfit I pieced together. Yes. The black pants are back AGAIN. They've been making more appearances than Edward Cullen in a 12 year old girl's diary. ZING! I'm just kidding! She's more like 42. But I love these pants! I never ever wore pants before I found these ones.

MY LIFE BEFORE: Spring/summer? Dresses. Fall/winter? Dresses with tights.
MY LIFE NOW: Wearing pants like a normal person.

But these are great and that's why I got three pair. Like Octomom is with children is how I am with these pants. I just want eight of em'!

The rest is pretty much stuff that's been in my closet forever. The scarf is probably 5 years old, the bangle 4 years old, and the boots almost 1 year. VINTAGE. Except not at all.

I'm so happy they all survived my sell-everything-I-own-on-eBay phase. (My Beanie Babies are gonna be next. They're my retirement fund.)

Shirt: RW&Co
Tank: Garage
Pants: RW&Co
Scarf: Winners
Bangle: Local Store
Boots: Shoe Warehouse

i wish my bedroom was a fort instead.

Forget about mansions, castles, and houseboats. (Okay maybe not houseboats; some of them are pretty cool.) Forts are where it's at.
Image found here
Since I've lived in apartments all my life, I've never fully been able to decorate any bedroom with careless abandon. There have always been restrictions. No painting with any colour other than white*, no replacing old carpet, no smashing down a tiny wall or two. How is a girl supposed to live?!

*I broke the painting rule. I rebelliously painted my closet doors purple without permission. Don't tell.

However all these limitations have caused me to dream! Dream of a whimsical bedroom decorated in a way that every landlord would hate. A fort bedroom. Just think of all the holes in the walls from hanging up the fabric. Muahahaha!

So I'd like to share a few things that I feel are must-haves for any fantasy fort bedroom!
(Disregarding restrictions such as: no money, not enough space, and lack of a staple gun.)

1. A chandelier

2. A ton of pillows

3. Some white lights

4. A ruffled duvet

5. A star projector

Sigh, there's nothing quite like a grown-up style fort. Someday I hope to live in a place where I can actually make one. In the meantime I must order a star projector off eBay! Those look like a crazy amount of fun! :)

following up with the february luxe box

The products have been tested, tough decisions have been made, and no one cares anymore haha. Oh well! I'll make it snappy. :)

Joico K-Pal Revitaluxe Hair Treatment
- Smells positively delightful
- Leaves hair feeling very soft after rinsing

- I need a lot of product in order to lather it throughout my hair
- I haven't noticed if it has actually repaired my hair in anyway, but I'll keep trying!

PureDKNY Perfume Sample
- This is one of those sweet, fresh, everyday scents
- I love its simple and sleek bottle design
- The scent lasts for a decent amount of time throughout the day

- I probably wouldn't buy the full-sized bottle though, if I had extra money to spend on perfume there are other scents I would want before this one (I tend to like sweeter candy-type fragrances :D)

Mereadesso Beautiful Body Balm
- Best smelling body lotion ever :) (smells like lemon meringue!)
- Leaves skin subtle, incredibility soft, and smelling great
- Probably my favorite product in the box

- Unfortunately the full sized product way too expensive! ($54 a bottle)

Lise Watier 24 Hrs Glam Mascara
- Packaging is different from other mascaras
- It lasts quite well throughout the day

- It's so difficult to remove! It comes off in little flakes, making it near impossible to remove all of it
- I kind of dread putting in on in the morning knowing I'll have to attempt to remove it at night
- I've never been a fan of plastic-bristle mascaras because I've never found them to separate lashes all that well
- Over-priced, I think that there are way better drugstore mascaras out there than this

Mereadesso Face and Neck Toning Gel
- Smells very refreshing, I love putting it on at night
- Leaves my face feeling soft and clean in the morning

- Like the other Mereadesso lotion, it's much too expensive for me! ($120 a bottle :O)

That's everything! I really enjoyed February's box. There was a great selection of different products, and I loved testing them all out! If I won the lottery I would buy Mereadesso products for all my family and friends! That stuff is gold.

I can't wait for the March Luxe Box :)

sally hansen blue it and e.l.f. golden goddess

Star light, star bright, the first star that I see tonight... is on my nails! Well kind of. They are a poor excuse for starry nails actually. I just did a couple coats of a deep navy blue and one coat of gold glitter polish. (AKA: the easy way out.) Oh yeah, so much effort was given.
Sally Hansen Blue It is a polish that I've had for a while. I really enjoy its clever name and its vibrant blue colour. I got Golden Goddess last October. I think e.l.f. nail polishes are great! (Especially because they're only $2 online.) Golden Goddess's only downfall is that it has an awful strong chemical smell, even worse than most nail polish. None of the other e.l.f. ones I bought smell as bad as this one. Maybe that's just the way their glitter formulation smells? I guess I get what I pay for! And unfortunately I usually don't pay much...
I think the final result is pretty cool. Kind of lazy in comparison to what I would have liked to do. Oh well I'll get em next time. How on earth do you do that splatter effect?!
I love space and watching documentaries about the solar system so I really want to do some extreme galaxy nails in the future. But this is all the effort I will put towards it this week. May the force be with you! The starry nail polish force? I have no clue where I was going with that. Have a good day! :D

maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow

So I've jumped on the bandwagon. The Maybelline Color Tattoo bandwagon that is. And I've jumped aboard with the shade Tough As Taupe! The safest most neutral shade that I could have picked. Oh well! Danger is so not my middle name.
This eyeshadow promises to:
- wear for 24 hours
- provide intense long-lasting colour
- glide on without creasing

I can't promise anything about it lasting 24 hours as I haven't actually worn it that long before, but I can say that it continually lasts around 11 hours from when I put it on in the morning until I wash it off at night. It also didn't crease on me at all. I was so surprised by its staying power. Color Tattoo Eyeshadow? They couldn't have picked a better name for it. It's kinda like a tattoo but without the absolute permanence, pain, or commitment. What a slogan!
Now this happens to be the first cream eyeshadow that I've ever tried. (Their general reputation of hardcore creasing was enough to keep me away.) However reviews on this product were so positive that I couldn't resist! Plus I love me a good neutral eye and Tough As Taupe is a beautiful light brown in the jar, and a deep purplely, gray, brown on the lid.
Boy oh boy, when you put this stuff on your eyelids, it stays on your eyelids! Be warned though, once it's dry it's very difficult to move around. So make sure you put it where you want it and try to fix mistakes as quickly as you can. :)
Have any of you tried these eyeshadows? What did you think? Which shade is your favorite? I'd love to try a bolder color, but I'm afraid I wouldn't wear it often enough to justify the purchase. I guess I'll just continue my game of playing it safe. Yay for safety! (Nobody ever cheers for safety. *Sigh*)

Overall I would agree that this eyeshadow delivers on its promise of "tattoo"-like wear. It lasts for as long as I need it to, blends easily with powdered shadows, and was quite inexpensive. If this is the direction in which all cream eyeshadows are going, then count me in for the ride. :)

for sweater or for worse

Happy March everyone! Get ready for flowers, rainbows, and butterflies because winter technically ends this month! Except Mother Nature sometimes does this thing where she doesn't give a damn and snow continues to heap down anyway. Hah hah she's so silly. Even so, most of the snow is melted here, and I'm hoping that it stays that way. :)
So this is my attempt at a transitional winter/spring outfit. My feet were a little nippy outside, but I will continue to force more and more flimsy shoes and bright colours onto my body until the weather gets the same idea. That's strategy number 1 anyway.

Pink sweater: Jacob $30 Link!
Blue dress shirt: Gap $12
Black dress pants: RW&Co $40
Beige t-strap flats: Miss Selfridge £25 ($39) Link!
Black and gold necklace: eBay $3 Link!
This necklace was a fantastic deal. 3 dollars and free shipping? Oh yeah! I'll take it. eBay is perfect for cheap little things like this, and there are still plenty of these out there. If the link up above ever stops working, just search "black triangle necklace" and it should come up if they still carry them.
I ordered these shoes online back in September, and only wore them a few times before it got too cold out. But now that it's getting warmer it's their time to shine again! T-strap shoes are my absolute favorite kind. If there was a shoe apocalypse and only one type of shoe could survive, I would want it to be t-strap ballet flats. (Which I would quickly regret during the winter or if I needed to run someplace.) Everyone just looks so cute in them! It's such a flattering style of shoe. I think a bright cherry red pair in the summer would be adorable!

So that's my outfit/outrageous winter rant. Here's wishing everyone a fabulous March!
