sunday rewind / week no.8

1/pavement markings on an evening jog 2/setting sun while out for said jog
3/early morning sky waiting for the train to move on by 4/artsy fartsy stuff

Look how one with nature I'm getting this week. I started jogging to avoid boredom and started taking pictures to avoid jogging. Ahh, the circle of life. The Lion King had it so right. Hoping to include more beauty/fashion next week. This looks like Surivorman's Instagram.

august favorites

It's been six months since the last favorites post on this blog. The pressure for a comeback is insurmountable, the products were hastily chosen, and the sarcasm is abundant. A perfect storm. So let's get into the goods.
no 1. THE KNOCKOFF SUNGLASSES
These have been my go-to sunnies all summer. They're cheap imitations of the Prada Baroque sunglasses. I know counterfeits are evil, shouldn't be supported, and when I'm a millionaire my resolve will be stronger. But what do you do when you love a design and the price is more than your monthly grocery bill? You sell your soul to the wholesale devil is what you do.

no 2. REVLON PRIMROSE LIPSTICK
I love this lipstick but I don't think it loves me back. It's a beautiful blue undertoned baby pink that may or may not clash with my warmish skin tone. Although, enough foundation and no one's the wiser. Other blogs have also said that it's a dupe for MAC Snob. If so, that's pretty cool.

no 3. NARS ANGELIKA BLUSH
This blush is a blessing not in disguise. It's extremely pigmented, as you'd expect from NARS, and although it looks glittery in the pan it's not an obvious sparkle fest on the cheeks. It adds light and a healthy glow to an otherwise exhausted complexion. It's the only thing that keeps me looking alive while working graveyard shifts.

no 4. OPI LINCOLN PARK AFTER DARK
This polish has been my fingernail shade on and off for so long we could give Ross and Rachel a run for their money. An OPI classic, Lincoln Park After Dark is a purple so dark and so deep it looks black. This is more than a monthly favorite, we're talking until the end of time here.

no 5. THE GAP CLUTCH
This envelope-style clutch has been my partner in crime for the majority of summer. And by partner in crime, I mean I take it to go to get chocolate croissants three times a week. Definitely a grab and go godsend.

no 6. LOLITA BY VLADIMIR NABOKOV
I've wanted to read this novel for years. As a rebellious teen I found a list of books that were famous for being banned and I resolved to read them all. Such a troublemaker. I finally finished Lolita this month. It was really good and I'll totally have to watch the movie versions now. I have a feeling the films are going to make me want a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

September should be a good month though. I feel like it always is. Not that I'm biased with it being my birthday month or anything... I mean autumn is in 19 days! Boots at the ready everyone.

sunday rewind / week no.7

1/jumping fox mug set 2/mascara photo shoot in the morning sun
3/candy skull drink cozy that i want but don't need 4/sunday morning chocolate chip waffles!

Weee, one more week closer to school! Bring it on, I'm so ready. Things are starting to get a bit dull. I fill the days with work, window shopping, and waffles upon waffles. It's going to be a looong stretch until October my friend. Really looking forward to packing up all my crap and getting this ol' brain back in business. Take all my money, just give me something to do.

In the meantime, I will continue on my journey to becoming the half-waffle, half-human hybrid I was born to be.
Please pass the syrup.

diorshow black out mascara

This is my very first high end mascara.

It's a week away from my 23rd birthday and I'm just now discovering what it's like to be an actual grown up woman. And real grown up women spend 30 dollars on black crap for their eyes god dammit! Well, truthfully my mom paid for it. She got it for herself, she didn't like it, and I was next in line. Prince Charles and I have so much in common.
Here are some thoughts on it.

*This mascara is a pure true black - it's black like starless deep space, liquorice jelly beans, my ex boyfriend's heart. The list could go on and on. This level of black would be a blessing for someone with blonde lashes.

*Wet formula - very easy to reapply throughout the day or quickly build up for a more dramatic look. Oh la la.

*Easy to take off - well, compared to my usual Revlon Colorstay Overtime 24hr mascara it is. This stuff is like the Wicked Witch of the West in a bottle; just add water and it melts away like nobody's business. Good for washing up, but bad for tears. I do wish I had the waterproof version. I'm a big ol' crybaby.

*It seems to be getting better with age - I've been using it on and off for about two months and it's a lot more manageable than it was in the beginning. Less runny and smudgy, more volumizing and defining.

But...

*It's hard to get corner lashes with this massive ass brush - a giant glob of product just gathers at the end of the wand patiently waiting to ruin your inner corner highlight... Bottom line? She's a scraper.
If I were to repurchase this mascara, it would definitely be in the waterproof formula. Hopefully that would solve any early on smudging problems. However, the brush makes me hesitant to truly consider getting this again. It's a shame because the formula is pretty killer. Overall, it's good. But it's not perfect.

Maybe I should chalk this up to a case of it's what's on the inside that really counts.

But then again, nobody messes with my inner corner.

sunday rewind / week no.6

1/feeling like a 90s queen 2/throwback to big ol' ice cream cones with mom
3/taking my favorite clutch out on the town 4/big sparkly stud

This week was proof that summer may be starting to wind down. Plans to the beach became plans to stay in bed and watch brooding clouds from the window. Don't get me wrong autumn is the best, but that means winter is soon coming. And the length of the last one was entering serious Game of Thrones territory.

I wasn't really in the mood to take pictures this week either. Hopefully it'll get better soon though. This blog can't consist of only Sunday updates! But it looks as though I'm taking a real shot at it.

sunday rewind / week no.5

1/blurry bouquet 2/faux stone H&M necklace
3/stella with her name tag  4/having a superb time out with family

This week was hard. My grandpa pasted away on Monday and that's all I've been thinking about. His memorial was today and it really was very lovely. Hoping to blog more in the following weeks. My apologies for this half arse post.

SONG OF THE WEEK

Oh dream maker, you heart breaker/Wherever you're going I'm going your way

totally stoned

I'm actually positive this necklace is made out of plastic. However, for the sake of laziness and the title I've constructed, let's pretend it's legit stone. I've never done a drug in my life. Please think I'm cool anyway.

Do you think this necklace gives off a laid back, boho-ish, kind of vibe? Because that's what I was hoping for when I spotted fifty of them squished on a peg in H&M. I envisioned paring it with an off-the-shoulder cream top, but I don't have one of those. So I settled (sure to be the first of many times) for a black maxi dress.

Now I'm just a hoop earring short of a carnival fortune teller. But what I lack in beaded anklets and my own handpainted trailer, I make up for in teeth. So... got that going for me.

Dress/ H&M

It's kinda fun how it has that built in layered look too. Like way to lift any and all responsibility from my sunburnt shoulders. Hopefully it won't end up like all the other necklaces of its kind: worn once and forgotten about forever in the jewelry box under my bed. I have semi-faith in this one.

sunday rewind / week no.4

1/a little bit of bedroom decoration 2/reminiscing of times in downtown vancouver
3/a colourfully beaded coin purse 4/attending a ribfest as a vegetarian who just came for da lemonade

Everyday this week was boring except for one. Saturday totally had it going on. There was sun, lemonade, cookie dough ice cream, hot french fries, live music, and the beach. I wish there could be a day like that in every week.
And cookie dough ice cream every day. Also hot french fries every hour... Okay I'm done.

SONG OF THE WEEK - The Zolas/Ancient Mars

I think the metaphor throughout this song is original and beautiful. It equates the death of a once fertile planet to the aftermath of a relationship. How it feels years later when there is little to no evidence of the life or love that used to be there. With an explanation like that the song should come across as overly mournful or sad, but it really doesn't. In this interview the lead singer explains he sees it as "a feature of love and the universe." Circle of life all up in here!

I want to believe in time travel/That one day I'll come back for you
Find you in the campus library aisles and I'd say/Oh my ancient Mars

sunday rewind / week no.3

1/my lazy bun and huge headband in the sun 2/shopping downtown and admiring that chandelier

I was a terrible picture taker this week. There were actually a fair lot of photo opportunities too, more than most weeks. Sadly they weren't taken advantage of. Quality job me! At least I did lighten my hair from the black mess it was a month ago. Here goes another week!

OPI / mod about you

I've been wearing black nail polish for months. Ridiculously stuck in a rut of my own faux punk design. But I'm putting all that behind me now: a dreamy pink polish has enticed this bad bitch to finally switch it up.

Mod About You is a shade straight out of the girly handbook. It's cotton candy-esque, pink lemonade-y, and a whole bunch of other dumb hyphened words I could make up to describe it. I wanted to get fancy by adding glitter along every cuticle line, but got lazy after doing the thumbs. At least I'm all blinged out if I ever decide to hitchhike. My nail glimmering in the sun will be the last thing people see of me before I'm kidnapped forever. What a legacy.

sunday rewind / week no.2

1/rewatching Marie Antoinette for the millionth time 2/a sequined hair ruffle
3/pretty clouds on a day at the beach 4/shopping downtown wearing wedges like a crazy beotch

I quit my second job this week. It felt awesome. It was at the Gap and the hours were becoming so meager and unpredictable that it just didn't feel worth the trouble anymore. A weight has been lifted and I see the light!
And I will also feel the light. The lightness. On payday. And in my wallet. Ugh what have I done.

Have a great Sunday!

a proper romper

I apologize for the plethora of obvious face crops in this post. They are due to the recent mistake of dying my hair; the result of which was a godawful swirl of muddish brown and pure black. I loath the whole thang and definitely will be lightening it up soon. I was going for Adriana Lima, but ended up with the little girl from The Grudge.

I mean, tale as old as time right.

This romper was a smokin' deal during the winter end of season sale at Zara. Its draped silhouette and silky material gave off a sophisticated vibe that caught my eye right away. However, once in the fitting room, I discovered its hamartia. Shawty got hella low when they were designing this. I'm talking bust out everywhere/v-neck for days, too much for daytime/not the best for a quick run to Target. Like, I'd call it a wardrobe malfunction à la Janet Jackson, but the police may have another name for it. So for now, we safety pin.

Romper/ Zara
Wedges/ H&M
Ring/ Ardene

Upon wearing it in public, I also came to find that this romper is actually crazy short. I guess I was too busy pinning up the front to notice the serious leg action going on below. Let me tell you, there was no bending it like Beckham today; my various body parts were too busy fighting to break free. But fashion is all about freedom of expression right? Maybe this romper takes that belief and transforms it into a concrete reality.

The reality that half my arse is hanging out? Possibly.

sunday rewind / week no.1

1/admiring a beaded elephant gift bag from pier one 2/finally cracking down on a blog redesign
3/fell in love with all these bath poufs, could only chose one 4/stella all up in my freshly made bed
instagram // ceightly

Sadly it felt like this week was just a vicious circle of work, sleep, work more. Very bittersweet. Bitter in the way of photo worthy opportunities and sweet where saving for school is concerned. Hopefully this dull week was still worth a post though; I was really looking forward to starting a new blog series! I also started binge watching Breaking Bad. I'm waaaay late to the party, but still having an awesome time.

SONG OF THE WEEK

Why you should listen: It's a perfect summer jam for indulging in melancholia and being sad about boys and life.
Best lyric: Shared my body and my mind with you/That's all over now

january favorites

New year, new beginning, new load of monthly crap that I took pictures of.
 photo januaryfavorites2014_zps30e3d6fb.jpg

no.1 THE CROCHETED SCARF
 photo crochetedscarf_zps6abae250.jpg
This is my first completed big crochet project. I usually just stick to mittens and hats, and for good reason. This took way too long to make. Is crocheter's elbow a thing? Because damn. How do people commit to making full length blankets and stuff? They rock. This scarf has proven a useful companion in the continual battle against the cold though. That's good enough for me.

no.2 NYX ROLL ON EYESHADOW IN NUDE
 photo nyxrolloneyeshadownude_zps0ca2e474.jpg
Less rock and more roll. That's right I fell for a gimmicky roll on eyeshadow. I really like it, but I wish it was in the traditional pan form. It's a beautiful bronze with a ton of shimmer. It's a little too coppery for use on the face and body, but it looks very pretty just on the eyelids.

no.3 OPI UH-OH ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW
 photo opiuhohrolldownthewindow_zpsee82a2d3.jpg
This color. For serious. I live for this kind of color. All moody, muddy, and mysterious. Sure the name alludes to the act of getting sick, but it looks super chic on the nails. It's a bottle of contradictions!

no.4 PLAYING POKEMON ON MY OLD ASS GAMEBOY
 photo pinkgameboyadvance_zps3b61a1de.jpg
Early 2000s swaaaagggg. No not really, but I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Crystal before bed. And in the morning. And in the middle of the day. That reflection you see is one of determination, concentration, and pure laziness.

no.5 THE MOLESKIN PLANNER
 photo moleskinnotebook_zps18076a5a.jpg
This planner is a fundamental part of this year's plan to become an organized and accomplished adult. (I hope the still-playing-Pokemon thing doesn't diminish that goal.) Anyway, I read somewhere that if you write something down you are twice as likely to follow through with it. So here comes Miss Productive! Hopefully.

I'm also using it as a memory journal of sorts; I've taped a few receipts and other worthy scraps of paper/memorabilia into it. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have something à la The Notebook to aid me in remembering the glory days of 2014 the days I will spend eating too many chocolate croissants and watching Netflix.

no.6 STELLA'S NAME TAG
 photo stellahamsternametag_zpsa2b5962c.jpg
This is my hamster Stella! I have had her for almost 8 months, but she is just now making her debut on this blog. She is the friendliest and sweetest pet, and she has never bitten anyone. If any hamster deserves a name tag, it's her. It would be comically too big for her to ever wear, but I think taping it on her cage will get the job done just fine.

Here's to February! I hope you have an excellent month.
